First batch of African elephants of western China settle down in Chongqing
CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing Locajoy World reports that three special "guests" have come from afar and are starting to settle down at Locajoy World. They are three lovely African elephants from Zimbabwe. The visitors have an average age of 4, including a male and two females.
This is the first introduction of African elephants into Western China. Because African elephants belong to African species, it's very difficult to import them. At the same time, the African elephants have a fiery temperament and have difficulties adapting, which call for higher requirements for their dwelling environment. In addition, elephants belong to the species listed in appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which means most elephants and ivory products are forbidden to trade. For this time, the three elephants' coming to Locajoy World will help alleviate the shortage of African elephants in western China.
